Is Dwight Howard an option for the Celtics? Rondo/Howard, plus one more very good player would make a new Big 3 that would be capable of title runs. Pierce could become more of a solid role-player.

Nice posts by you all

Cain, yes, the second round is deeper than past years.  The first ten picks in round 2 are almost rd 1 picks in most years.  I dont believe Buford would be around at 51 but if so, wow.  I still want Danny to move up to 40 by enticing Portland with future rd 2 picks .

I totally agree that mixing vets with developing youth is key.  Rondo and Bradley developed by working with vets.  There tenacity on D was influenced by KG.....and thats why I also agree that KG is important to this organization.  Plus, if he wins another ring, his number retires in that coveted ceiling.............and he knows that too.

Ray?  Not a critical piece IMO, but a nice addition for the right price.

Now for the Gasol situation.  There is no chance in hail that anyone would want that guy.  He is not tough, consisistent, and he is WAAAAAYYYYYYY overpaid.  That is a boat anchor in LA IMO.

Howard- well, I dont like his atttude, and I am not excited about paying $20M for the guy.  yes, if trained by KG, he could be dominating...but is the guy really going to give his all.......not believing it

Hibbert- I dont think he is the right guy with Rondo.  He does not run.....and if Rondo is anything he is  a fast break machine waiting for his James Worthy to show up.  Thats what Celts need, a james worthy.  I think their are forwards in this draft who fit nicely.  In fact, check out the wingspan on these latest PF crop.  Their total reach is better than the centers listed at 7 feet .  Finally, Hibbert wants to be a Pacer, and why not.  Not a Hibbert fan.

Rajon- You heard it here, Rondo is available, but only for one player that someone noted earlier....and I dont think that deal is dead at all

Well guys, we now have a deep youth squad, almost too deep IMO and needing veteran leaders.  Fab, AB, Sully, JJ, Kris J and Etwan.

Some good Irish luck we hope on Sully's drop.......(fingers crossed).

Our centerpiece is Rajon.

Paul is back, but beyond that they need more vets to play and guide this young squad.

Who are the right Free Agents besides KG?

Let me know

Hawk, what we need for fee agents are:

1. two wing players, one who scores, one who kinda scores, but can play great D on a 6/7" guy

2. back up pointguard

3. scoring off the bench

If KG returns and they think Johnson and Sullinger are ready to contribute this year I'd like to see them get Gerald Wallace, assuming he opts out. I think it'd be worth paying him 7-9 a year for two years for the versatility and leadership he could bring. And they should also have money left over to get a guy like Jamal Crawford, a combo guard that can score. I'm not sure about Bass at this point. A lot of people are expecting him to want a lot more than the 4 or so million he would make with his option but I think he is looking more to cash in on a decent playoff performance for a long term deal. I'm not sure if the Celtics would give him a 3-4 year deal.

I like the Roster that would come out of this:

PG: Rondo, Moore
SG: Bradley, Crawford
SF: Pierce, Wallace, (Green?)
PF: Johnson, Sullinger
C: Garnett, Stiems, Melo

Maybe bring back Wilcox for depth for the bigs and Pietrus/Daniels for depth on the wings. This is a team that could contend now, would have a good crop of youth learning from Doc, Pierce, KG, and if you could make Wallace's contract expire the same time as Pierce's you might be in a position down the road to have a lot of cap space when those two contracts come off the books.

I was a big fan of getting Asik but if KG comes back I'd rather not invest in a defense oriented big with limited offensive skills when you already have Melo, who would be a lot cheaper on a rookie contract and could vastly improve his game under KG.

i have faith that (if green gets resigned by ainge) green would fit nicely behind pierce. especially sense green will be cheap...

as for FA?

id love to see OJ and Lou backing up bradley and rondo talk about an infusion of youth

Kg/melo/Steamer
Bass/Sullinger (if bass doesnt get resigned id like to see them look at kaman or hawes)
Pierce/Green
Bradley/Mayo
Rondo/Lou

that would be fun to watch

Nighthawk i like your thinking
i think a bass for mayo deal would be good. If sullinger is healthy he is already better than bass. Mayo needs to be on the Celtics next year and ray needs to go he plays zero defense and turns the ball over anytime he tries to pass it. I love him but unless he is only a shooter then he is useless.

moore has developed into a combo gaurd so i think with a back court of rondo, bradley, mayo and moore your set for the future as well as bringing back keyon (played well when healthy as well as great leader)

pierce, green and pietrus as well as this joseph kid gives us two veterans for now, a great defender in MP as well as a versitile guy in Green and a future project in Joseph.

KG, Sully and johnson. KG would love to be back at PF sully will be a stud if healthy and johnson still has to prove he is good but its a lot younger.

Melo nd the steamer are good backups for now and the future but after trading bass for mayo and signing KG cheap I would love for them to get Kaman a capable vet.

So you start a defensive nightmare of
Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
KG
Kaman

and then you have an awesome bench of
Dooling
Mayo
Green/pietrus
Green/Sully
Melo/Steamer
Mayo can be the primary scorer of the second unit. Green can be the ultimate versitility guy who has little pressure but will thrive against second units. And they are young enough to run with rondo as well as have a bright future with the development of Green, Melo, Moore, Johnson, and Steamer, and of course Bradley.

If they can make this happen (not unrealistic, kaman would be nice but Mayo is a necessity) then they will contend this year and in the future. I still think the celtics were a better team than MIAMi but their old legs caught up to them in the last 9 minutes of game 7. So if they can get those young legs alonmg with some rebounding they will be contenders for sure. Not hating on the Heat Lebron played like a monster but the celtics defense was absurd without Bradley if only they could have scored more consistently

Now that Danny has got his bigs out of the way, there are many free agent wings to consider.

I like Lou Williams and I agree that Sully may be similar to Bass, altho Bass is a vet, and Sully is not.

Cain, he has to be getting numerous offers as a undrafted free agent......maybe this kid should find a way to hold off signing for a few weeks andlet the bidders come.  A team like LA should be lookin at him

Bufford could be a solid bench player in the NBA.  He went through all 4 years at OSU and probably should have left after his junior year.  He isn't the most athletic player but he is an all around solid player.  He can hit the mid-range but his 3 point shooting was a little off last year (36% or so) down from the low 40s the year before.  He took a back seat to the "Big 3" of OSU and let the game come to him, a little too complacent at times.

Agreed... I think he will get quite a few calls and invites.... Now just a matter of where to go?

The guy the Lakers need to take a good look at is Scott Machado. I dont care what they say about speed, the kid can play PG at this level, and I think he could be a good one. Someone has to give him a chance in my mind.

I've heard that OJ Mayo is out of the Celtics price range, which for me would indicate that the Celtics should try getting Lou Williams. Doc and Danny both seem to think that Allen is a lock for coming back to boston. In the end i wouldn't mind having him back but ray seems to want a long term deal 2+ years... So he doesn't deal with the stressors of being trade bait in march. I wonder if etwan Moore will step in and start getting more minutes as a backup point guard

I think you do whatever you need to within reason to keep steimsma... two 7 foot shot blockers for the future is never a bad deal.

I thought Bass was good but he is expendable, I would try and move him for Bass even if you resign allen. If we win it all couldnt you see Ray and Garnett and even maybe pierce just calling it a career. Or how about if Bradley or Ray get hurt, there needs to be more than 3 capable wing players.

Sign n trade Bass for mayo. Get it done

Also if we have room after the wheeling and dealing i would love Chris Kaman. Melo probably wont be ready to start for at least two years and Kaman is a good rebounder and can score. Camby is too old and gets hurt. then again he is a Umass boy

I would love to see a team like this

Rondo/Dooling/Moore
Bradley/Ray/Mayo
Pierce/Green/ peitrus/Joseph
KG/Sullinger/johnson
Kaman/Melo/Steamer

my vote would be to get rid of moore from that group. Dooling seemed to have a big impact on rondo and lets be honest backup combo gaurds are a dime a dozen, they can pick up one next year in the draft.

If no money for Kaman I keep moore or bring back wilcox.

Mayo is the wya to go

Crotch, Hawk

I think Joseph ends up in Portland as part of Danny's D League dev plan.  That keeps the roster at 13.

I would love Terry, a perfect fit in Boston which promotes defense first.

They have about $18M??? to sign FA's plus the mid cap.....and they can play with the rules as Bass and Ray would be past Celtics.

Sign Terry, Bass, Ray and Jeff

OK, but is Dooling worth keeping?

I just reread the new CBA rules.  My bad. They roster 12 but can keep 3 players on the inactive list, even if in the development league, and they can use them game to game depending on injuries to the first 12.

This CBA changes a boat load of things, and having young players who may be just on the cusp is not a big issue anymore.

Interesting times for building a roster and developing kids

I think a smart, underrated move would be to extend William Buford a rookie FA deal, at least to get him in summer league and see if the stroke carries over to the NBA. That could be a bench shooter right there to plug in with Rondo and Bradley on the second line that gives them a dead eye shooter.
