Welcome to Pittsburgh, Mr. DeCastro.  These are the Counter-34-Pike and 22-Double.  I hope you enjoy blowing up OLBs and DBs with an 8-yard head of steam. Cool

Good night Folks.

Ravens are not screwed but to me the top players were swiped right from under them, witness them moving back. The Ravens beat us twice in 2011, the OL got no push, now we got a stud OG that could help that situation, and he an actually pass protect, put him next to Pouncey.

Who do you like in round 2, Heck if they got another OG or an OT I could live with that. Just run everyone over, Pittsburgh style.

I am working 9-6 tomorrow. will pop on and off until I get into my war chair.

DeCastro? You never know how these things turn out but it could be the steal of the draft.Great pick.

I'm hearing Decastro can play LG or RG

As for the Ravens getting screwed, not so sure about that. Once Hightower was gone they got out of the 1st tound pretty quickly, they have an extra pick now and could still get a guy like Upshaw, Glenn or Konz.

Congrats Steeler faithful. You had one of the 10 best football players drop right into your lap at 24. Pretty sweet feeling I'm sure.

Keep draftin the big uglies, run the freakin" ball

This is something that I've been throwing around the last few years, and I've caught some flack for it on other sites/boards/in person.

Yes, the league is moving towards benefitting the passing game. But WITH that, teams are loading up with coverage players and smaller, faster front 7 players.

Heck, teams have corners playing FS and FS's playing SS.

Often, the easiest way to be successful is when everyone is looking left, go RIGHT.

And even though the league rules favor passing, what do you have to be able to do when:

-You have a lead

-The weather is bad

-You get to the playoffs/SuperBowl

RUN THE BALL AND PLAY DEFENSE!

I love Ben, but it's pretty obvious that he's at his best when teams have to respect the Steelers ability to run the football down their throats.

All the "experts" talk about how Pittsburgh is moving towards being a passing team, or already are. Yes, they have playmakers in the passing game...

BUT PUSH THE PILE AND RUN THE DAMN BALL!!! Laughing

I wonder what influence Todd Haley had on this pick. Pretty sure when he dropped to us it was a no brainer, but he has got to be ecstatic.

File this under the no shit**** category

McShit**** called Chandler Jones the best pick in the draft and than Schefter and Mortenson lauded about how much better the Patriots defense is and how big a winner they are. Right, like all those other drafts they were winners with guys we never heard from again.

One of the best picks of the entire 2012 first round--DeCastro was our No. 6 overall player in the 2012 draft class. DeCastro's ability as a pure guard will make him a fixture in Pittsburgh along what's becoming a very good offensive line. DeCastro is a power guard who is more agile than most, and at worst we see him being a multiple-time Pro Bowler in the NFL. Grade: A++ Got this from BleacherReport. I'm so stoked! I'm sure as we all are.

Yeah, Weeden didn't look too thrilled. I think it's funny he's older than Brady Quinn.

They did not want to let Tampa Bay move up to three and steal him. I guess they did not like Blackmon because to me either player was needed.  Three picks is a lot to give up but if you want the guy get him but RB's are easier to find later in the draft.

I can only assume they thought the Buccs was trying to trade with the Vikings to get Richardson and they wanted to make sure they got him.

To me the Browns had a great chance this year to really build towards the future and they screwed it up with Weeden and trading all those picks for to move up one spot for Richardson. Yes he's gonna be a great RB but lets see him run on the Steelers and Ravens twice a year.

Tbh I'm not complaining tho all these moves helped De Castro fall to us along with bonehead moves by the Jets and seahawks. Even the Patriots trading up did us a huge favour preventing the Bengals taking De Castro and we got one of the best players in the draft. Result.

Now where do we go from here? Guys I like are Brooks, Silatolu, Osemele on the line and David, Wagner and Kendrick as LB. My personal favourite is Lavonte David, althougth smaller than you'd like I love his instincts and the fact he's always around the ball with sound tackling technique, If he's there I'd seriously consider taking him in the second but he's gotta pass the Eagles and Titans.

As I said earlier I wouldn't be the least bit surprised office the Steelers pick up Mychal Kendricks in the 2nd. It may be technically a bit of a reach, but he won't be there in the third and he is a coveted player on many draft boards.

Indy,

Who knows, we didn't expect DeCastro to be there in the 1st either.

6 players that were in the green room, slid to second day so that means 6 guys that we didn't expect to be there will be there and then you have to figure the WOW facter moves in also.

David
Wagner
Kendricks
Te'Amu (sp?)
Osemele
Silatou
Brooks
Massie
Allen

You have to figure a couple of these players will be there when we select in the 2nd.

I like the David DeCastro pick, it adds immediate completion to the offensive line.  Now they need to add tackle depth.  Defensively, I see them reaching at safety because they know they have a need there, unfortunately, the talent pool is a tad murky.

Two players I can see being picked up round 4 or later:  Kirk Cousins (QB) and Carson Wiggs (P).  Don't ask why, I just have a hunch a kicker is being drafted this year.
