The Clippers played big for 36 minutes against Denver, but their lack of consistent play has been killing them this season. However, a 5-9 record at this point in the season without Blake Griffin, and Eric Gordon for much of the season, is an improvement in my eyes.
Hopefully Eric is back this week, and look for an update on Blake this week.
Games for this Week: (3-1) 8-10
November 23rd vs. Timberwolves ---> Won 91-87
After struggling all game, the Clippers finally come through with a big fourth quarter.
Sebastian Telfair and Craig Smith came up big against their former team, to aid Al Thornton in another breakout game for him.
Chris Kaman had an off game, but I'm sure he will be back into groove for Indiana.
Player of the Game: Al Thornton
- 31 pts, 10 rebs (6 orbs)
Honorable Mention: Sebastian Telfair; Marcus Camby
- 17 pts; 12 pts, 18 rebs, 4 asts, 3 stls
November 25th at Indiana ---> Lost 73-86
No Danny Granger. Still lost. Had a nine point lead at the half that went down the toilet in the fourth.
The Clippers shot terribly the whole game, while the Pacers shot well only in the fourth, mostly due to bad defense by the Clippers. They left men wide open for 3 point shots like Dahntay Jones and Troy Murphy, and T.J. Ford got to the lane much too easily in crunch time.
Eric Gordon was back in front of his hometown fans, but he only managed 5 points in the loss.
Statistical reason that the Clippers lost this game? The Clippers had only 9 assists, and 14 turnovers, while Indiana had 21 assists with 9 turnovers. And shooting 29-90 as a team is not getting you any wins. Baron got hot late, and was fired up a bit, but the defense could not get a stop or a rebound when they needed to.
Player of the Game: Baron Davis
- 25 pts
Honroable Mention: Marcus Camby
- 15 pts, 21 rebs, 3 stls
November 27th at Detroit ---> Won 104-96
The Clippers got out-rebounded, allowed Detroit to shoot 47% from 3, but still won this game. Grant the victory to shooting nearly 60% from the field for the game.
Add in only turning the ball over 9 times, and 26 assists on 37 buckets, and you'll get yourself an efficient offense.
Player of the Game: Baron Davis
- 25 pts, 10 asts, 5 rebs
Honroable Mention: Chris Kaman
- 26 pts, 7 rebs
November 29th vs. Grizzlies ---> Won 98-88
I was absolutely pissed during the first three quarters of this game. The Clippers were down by nearly 20, and getting outplayed by nearly every aspect of the game. I hated Memphis, Tennesee, Grizzly Bears, etc.
But.. in the fourth quarter, the Clippers were NOT ready to lose this game. They made a run towards the middle of the quarter, and outscored the Grizzlies 33-7 in the final quarter. The Clippers as a TEAM came back for this game, and Eric Gordon's 29 points kept them within reasonable striking distance. 17 offensive rebounds will keep you in it, too.
Player of the Game: Eric Gordon
- 29 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts
Honorable Mention: Marcus Camby
- 14 pts, 14 rebs, 4 asts, 3 blks
Quote of the Week ---> Mike Dunleavy
All of a sudden, it came together. The aggressiveness, the double-teaming, the rotations, the pick-and-roll defense....it was all there in the fourth quarter.
See you next week.
