Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, SMU and UCF will join the Big East Conference in 2013, sources told CBSSports.com.

The announcement will be made Wednesday. The league will hold a 5 p.m. ET teleconference to formally discuss the new members. Realignment map: The new Big East

Boise State and San Diego State will join the Big East as football-only members, while Houston, SMU and UCF will join as all-sport members. Boise State is expected to put its non-football sports in the WAC, while San Diego State would place its non-football sports in the Big West, sources told CBSSports.com.

With the addition of those five schools -- minus the departures of West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Syracuse -- the Big East will have 10 football members.

With those five schools on board, Navy is expected to join as a football-only member -- possibly as soon as next week -- to boost the football membership to 11 schools.

The Big East hopes to add Air Force as its 12th football school -- as a football-only member -- but the Falcons still remain undecided.

If the Big East cannot get Air Force, Temple would be a likely candidate to become the Big East's 12th member.

Even with the new schools, sources also told CBSSports.com that the Big East still plans to make West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh honor the league's 27-month exit requirement and stay in the league until June 30, 2014. Big East commissioner John Marinatto has said previously the league could have more than 12 football members and 16 basketball members during the 2013 season.

However, West Virginia AD Oliver Luck told CBSSports.com two weeks ago the Mountaineers are planning to join the Big 12 next season.

"We're planning on all sports spending the 2012-13 academic year in the Big 12," Luck said. "The Big 12 folks haven't given us a [deadline] date. We're 100 percent focused on competing in the Big 12 and with this season closing, have time to prepare for next year.

"Our coaches are starting to think about Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas and all the other schools we'll be facing in the Big 12 next year."

Both West Virginia and the Big East have filed lawsuits. West Virginia claims it should not have to honor the 27-month commitment, while the Big East contends West Virginia may not leave before 2014.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have not filed a lawsuit to join the ACC early, but are monitoring the West Virginia situation. If WVU leaves before 2014, Syracuse and Pittsburgh would do the same, sources said.

Boise State, 4 others to join Big East in 2013

ECU is the one getting screwed out of all of this. SD State? Really? East Carolina should get the invite if Air Force backs off but the Big East is leaning toward Temple. Like I said, ECU is getting screwed royally.

Yes a real brainteaser there, stay in the BigEast where Notre Dame runs the show yet doesn't feel the league worthy enough to even play in it, or play in the B12 with better teams, more money, better bowls, and all teams play in the conference. Yep that was a tough call.Laughing

Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&m, and Missouri have all left the Texas leaguer.  TCU joining the other texas schools I understand. Why West Virginia would accept such a U of Texas financially dominant situation makes one wonder about their mental capacity..but hey..no one has ever said West Virginia was filled with Rhodes Scholars.  That Oklahoma and Ok St. remained is a mystery as they are really the only football worth watching in that Texas league.  Take those two out of the Texas Leaguer and I think the state of Texas would find that they ain't half as big, smart and watchable as they have always thought they are.  Mess with texas...??hell why bother... nothing but a bunch of blowhard egotist...and based upon your thinking here I think it is safe to say that you weren't on any scholarship list either.....is this G W Bush using an alias to post here?  Sounds about as smart as him....

Boise State, 4 others to join Big East in 2013

Boise State has a winning program, that each year go unrecognized by this stupid organization called the BCS. They want to join a conference that is AQ and would get a shot at the mythical national champion game. You would have to be asked and acceped by a conference. I suppose this might be the only conference that asked and acepted them.

I can not understand them joing a conference that is miles from most of the teams they would be playing, but if this get them the goal they ar seeking then s be it.

I do have a problem with how they plan to get students to attend away games when they would have to play one of the eastern shools of their new conference.  I even question the number of students that might be able to attend an away game with San Diego State.

The administrators should have sat down and looked at the entire program, the cost to students, alum and fans. I know there are many fans that woould like to root for the team and attend as many away games as possible. This would not be the case under the current conference set up.

Boise State, 4 others to join Big East in 2013

Come on folks, get real.  None of this has anything to do with medical schools, academics, or "tradition."  It has everything to do with money and the somewhat antiquated social (or political) views that university presidents seem to cling to.

As a Boise fan, this move is a geographical abomination, but at the same time I understand it, especially after the team got screwed, yet again, when the BCS bowls handed out their candy.  The BCS snub cost Boise and it's fellow nonAQ schools $18.5 million dollars!  Do I need to draw you a map?  That is the reason, pure and simple.

Yes, it makes me sick to my stomach, but not nearly as disgusted as when the winningest senior class in college football this Century is once again told that it isn't "good" enough.  This group of kids is 49-3 over four years, averaging a margin of victory of over 30 points a game!  Good God, this team this year lost but a single game by a single point to the defending Rose Bowl champion.  They beat the Big 12, PAC 12, ACC, and SEC East champions.  And they must watch as teams who got blown out of the stadium by mediocre teams get chosen to move ahead of them and collect those big bags of money.

And you still don't "get" it?
