Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini has been offered the Florida Atlantic job and is expected to accept the position, sources told CBSSports.com.

The 46-year old Pelini is the brother of Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini. Carl Pelini will replace Howard Schnellenberger, who announced his retirement before the season.

Carl Pelini has been Nebraska’s defensive coordinator since 2008. Before that Pelini was defensive line coach at Ohio from 2005-07, defensive coordinator at Minnesota State in 2004 and a Nebraska graduate assistant in 2003.

From 1987-2002, Pelini was a high school coach in Ohio, except for three seasons (1989-91) as a Kansas State graduate assistant and restricted earnings coach.

This will be Pelini’s first head coaching job since 2002 when he was at Austintown’s Fitch High School in Ohio.

Florida Atlantic (1-10) concludes its season Saturday at home against Louisiana-Monroe.

Carl Pelini expected to take FAU job

It's not like Carl was the architect of the Husker defense.  I'm sure Bo could just shove his arm up someone's a$$ and make like a sock puppet and turn them into the same defensive coordinator that was Carl Pelini.

Carl Pelini expected to take FAU job

Your information about his resume isn't correct. I actually worked with Carl at Winnetonka High School in Kansas City back in '97-98. He was a grad assistant at KSU under Snyder, then a coach in Kansas in the Blue Valley School system, then HC and AD at 'Tonka before heading back to Ohio to coach.

Some men just don't want to follow in their brother's shaddow; besides, when February rolls around Bo will be in Lincoln, NE, and Carl will be in Boca ~ where would you rather be?

Carl Pelini expected to take FAU job

The rumor last season was Carl was having an affair with a boosters wife.  Not sure if this is true but the rumor was the NU Booster wanted him gone last year and when TO talked to BO about it his response was "If he's gone I'm gone!"  I heard last week Carl was living in Bo's basement and that BO was looking into the Mississippi job.  Again.  Not sure any of this is true.  Rumors about Husker Football spread like a brush fire here in Nebraska.

Carl Pelini expected to take FAU job

Carl Pelini's salary at Nebraska (according to wiki) is $375K.
Howard Schnellenberger's salary at Fla. Atlantic was approx. $400K.

Granted, a new job title is on the line, but seriously why would you jump ship for basically a lateral move financially when the calliber of play, facilities and luxuries are far better at a top-notch Big Ten school? Perhaps brother Bo is not long for Nebraska? Why the rush to take the first school that comes calling? Odd story worth following.

He took the job because he was about to be fired by Tom Osborne. He's very lucky to have an offer. I wish him well and good riddance.

Carl Pelini expected to take FAU job

Good hire by FAU to get Carl Pelini as there new HC but why in the hell did he take this lowly job. I am convinced Carl would have gotten a better HC job somewhere else but I guess he did not want to wait so I wish him well because he will need it at FAU.
