Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

Missouri's departure from the Big 12 to the SEC is "inevitable and imminent," the New York Times reported Monday night, but Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas told CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd "I guess we'll wait and see."

"I have not heard anything different," Neinas told CBSSports.com. "I really have no comment. I have not heard anything. I have not read the New York Times story. That's all I can tell you."

The Times, quoting a college official with direct knowledge of the situation, said no specific timetable has been set. However, Missouri’s Board of Curators will meet on Thursday in Kansas City, Mo., where the process of withdrawing from the Big 12 and applying to the SEC is expected to begin, the Times reported.

Neinas told Dodd he understood the Board of Curators meeting were "regularly scheduled meetings, not a special meeting," Neinas said. "They're looking for a new systems president."

On Saturday, Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis told CBSSports.com Big 12 officials did not know whether Missouri would stay in the Big 12.

Hargis also told CBSSports.com the league's presidents would engage in "serious conversations" in the next two weeks whether to remain at 10 schools or return to 12 schools. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma prefer 12 members, while Texas prefers 10 members. However, officials from all three schools stress they just want the best model that assures long-term stability.

Neinas said recently that Missouri would remain in the league in 2012, no matter what the Tigers decision was regarding the SEC. However, a source told CBSSports.com last week that it was still "very possible" if Missouri left the Big 12, it could begin play in the SEC next season along with Texas A&M.

Neinas said last week he told SEC commissioner Mike Slive “if you’re going to extend an invitation to Missouri please let me know.”

Missouri's decision to leave for the SEC could have a major impact on the Big East Conference, whose presidents and chancellors were scheduled to hold an 8 p.m. teleconference to approve an increase in its exit fees from $5 million to $10 million.

Louisville and West Virginia would be leading candidates for the Big 12, but league sources told CBSSports.com Monday afternoon both schools would support increasing the league's exit fees. That was, however, before the Times' report Monday night that Missouri was headed to the SEC.

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

ChiefSaren....  If KC is such a BIG COLLEGE TOWN as the KU faithful continues to preach....then YES the SEC wins by adding Mizzou.

Again, maybe KU fans aren't tuning into watching Mizzou/Vandy on a Saturday night....but they'll be watching Alabama/LSU..... guess who wins again.... SEC!

I would prefer Mizzou to stay...but they're gone...and its exciting as a Mizzou fan.

Mizzou to the EAST with:  Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vandy, Tennessee.....  Mizzou will be above .500 against these teams in football.    Not great...but they'll be competitive.

Basketball... SEC will assure Mizzou an NCAA TOURNEY INVITE.

Also, I agree that OU/TEXAS run the conference...as do all the other big boys... but the other BIG BOYS don't keep trying to take their ball and runaway unless you spot them more points/money :)

Texas has been looking to move every year SINCE 2009!!!!!!   They've done it 3 straight years.... what makes you think they won't try again???

TCU ROSEBOWL CHAMPIONS.....thats like an ELEVATOR in an OUTHOUSE....it doesn't belong!

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

As for the KC market...once again idiot..I'll explain it for you "THE HOWARD STERN RULE".   The SEC would get $1.00 for every television set that tunes into the SEC CABLE NETWORK for every television in an SEC STATE....they would only receive $0.10 if its not an SEC STATE.   Therefore adding MIZZOU =  SIGNIFICANT MONEY.

As for the HOWARD STERN RULE :  Majority of the people who listen to him, hate him....  Example:  All of the Kansas fans watching in JEALOUSY in the KC bars, etc....hoping to watch Mizzou lose... I bet MIZZOU outdraws the KU basketball games...   SEC WINS BECAUSE OF THE RATINGS OUT OF THE KU FAITHFUL.

West Virginia...  again...  TAKE ME HOME>>>> COUNTRY ROADS.......  Please tell me where the Missouri president stated "WE WANT TO GO TO THE BIG10!" .... exactly..nowhere.

Kansas football is dead....K-State is on life support when Snyder calls it quits...  K-State is somehow 6-0????  Should be 3-3.

Slippy do you know what you talking about at all? Look at the KU BB ratings in the KC area, it's the top 30 rated programs all year other then the Super Bowl. So i think you might have it backwards on KU fans watching MU hoping for a loss on TV. All i ever hear from MU fans is how KU lost in the NCAA tourney(like they're going to win a 68 team tourney every year or something) recently how KU lost to VCU with only 6 teams left in the tourney and just 3 years removed from the NC and Orange bowl win. It's an ongoing joke that MU's only good game of the year is when KU get's knocked out of the dance in the sweet 16 or elite 8, or one of the 13 final fours or 7 NC appearences. You really think MU and Vandy is even going to be on TV in KC? and if they are on a special network that most people in Big XII country won't even get. KU and MU were 7-7 in FB over the big XII's 14 year history, neither won a CC and KU won and made the only BCS game and was the only Big XII team to win a NC in BB over those 14 years and 4 final fours. So yeah your right MU pulled way more weight athletically in the Big XII. lmao, facts and stats are a wonderful thing so try looking before talking about Howard stern on a sports page, MU isn't bringing in enough extra revenue to divide 14 ways and never make any big games where the real money is at. You really think SEC will market in KC and St Louis? Or stick to the South Eastern part of the country where they make the money they're going to wish they didn't have to split with you chumps.

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

Considering Kansas traveled well and beat #3 Va Tech in the Orange Bowl to finish 12-1 with a BCS win, i would cry too much about the selection. MU got to go roll Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl that year anyway. What conference are they in? But yeah Misery could have had that Orange bowl bid with 1 more loss since KU fans go to celebrate the national championship in BB just a couple months later. Those trophies sure look nice in Lawrence though. I wonder when Columbia will get one, i'm sure you'll finish top 2 in SEC as often as you did in the BigXII, lmao. Enjoy the few extra million fans....

>You never even won a Big 12 North title and you want to go to the SEC.

Chase Daniel says hi.

Don't feel bad, hornsfan, the Orange Bowl didn't know Missouri won the Big 12 North that year either and beat the you know what out of the team .they did invite, Kansas.

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

Slippy come on, Big Xii just added the reigning Rose Bowl Champs and is eyeing Louisville and BYU..faling apart?? SEC not negotiating behind the scenes, lmao. yeah and your recruiting is legit down there too. Get a clue, Big XII is fine no that Beebe is gone and SEC is dirtiest conference there is and it's not a secret either. I love how people act like Texas and OU run the Big XII, well guess what Florida and Bama run the SEC, OSU and Michigan run the Big Ten, USC and UCLA the Pac, Big East well.....

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

Misery and Aggies don't bring much to the SEC football wise other then two middle of the pack teams and opens up Texas recruiting to the top of the pack teams. Of course they bring in more revenue with KC, St Louis, and Dallas and all of us fans just love talking about revenue, lol who cares... MU and A&M's biggest contribution to the SEC will come in basketball where they'll be top 4 or 5 in the conference instantly and also bring some academics to that conference other then vandy. So as much as i hate to say it they bring, revenue producing markets, better academics then 90% of the SEC, and makes the BB not just a team show, Plus decent football as well, MU just smoked Arkansas in the Cotton bowl a few years ago and A&M actually sent that guy named Bear to the SEC way back when. Buy the way peace out to both of you close but no cigar schools when it comes to big games. TCU an improvement on A&M and Louisville a huge improvement on mizoo.(the show me nothing state)

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

HogAuthority...if you don't think negotiations are going on behind the scenes....then you do believe in Santa Clause...come on man.

Its called CYA..... COVERING YOUR ASS...... SEC doesn't want to be sued for a conference falling apart.....the offer is there.

Question is:  Will Mizzou accept it?

AND I AGREE.... I'm so freaking sick of talking about this crap...its been going on for far too long.   End the freaking drama...hopefully an answer coming today... but rumor has it that Chancellor Deaton...he doesn't even know if its better to stay or leave yet?

Lower quality schools? You my friend are the reason so many view Longhorn fans in such a negative light these days. True Longhorn fans see clowns like you and cringe at the poor image your are displaying of such a great school. Don't go away bitter Sham... just go away.

More deadwood needed for bigger bonfire

The SEC adding these lower quality schools and teams is not helping out their case of being the bestest power conference in football. The conflagaration that is Missouri and A&M ain't adding anything to your brand. Just a bigger fire that will burn out sooner. I am not impressed.

Big 12 on Mizzou move to SEC: "Wait and see"

Slippy:

It is a fact the SEC has not invited any schools to SEC other Arkansas, South Carolina & A&M.

The SEC just doesn't go around asking schools to join.  How silly is your comment.  Missouri would have to submit an appliaction first, then it would have to be approved by existing member school Presidents, then an invite could be made.

As it is known Missouri is showing interest, some inforaml polling has taken place.   It is known that at last discussion Missouri did not have the required votes, nor does Clemson, West Virginia, & Florida State.  I do not know about Virgina Tech but to my knowledge no interest from that school has ever been communicated?

I can you this much, I hope they stay it is getting old already.
